Year of the Dragon
This concert piece written by Philip Sparke is a very Beautiful piece. It has everyhting, You'll laugh, you'll cry, its great. Our wind ensemble played it this year and I loved sneaking in to the after school rehearsals to listen to it and during performances I made sure I was in the audience during this piece. Its a very long piece, a little under 15 minutes, but the length allows the composer to pull you through several moods through the duration of the piece. Make sure to listen to the whole piece so you can feel what I am talking about. You can almost feel a scene as though it matches up with a movie. I love listening to this piece and just closing my eyes and acting out the movie in my head. This post took me a long time because I was listening to the piece as I was writing and I kept getting distracted and thrown off of my thought process.
